Family Plot Conventions

Objective:

Describe the icons, terminology and content that comprises Family Plot website.

Conclusion:

Family Plot provides a simple methodology to converge 3 things

List of our Families (Data)
List of our Family Members (Data)
Image Files of Family and Family Members (Files)

into a family knowledge base and virtual photo album (Website )

All modern genealogy accounting methods
built on Family and Family Member data sets (tables)
must provide an index
that links the two tables
such that Fam_Member records can be properly matched with Family records

Most genealogy methods (i.e. software products ) assign randomly generated index values to pair the records.
Family Plot assigns intelligent Family and Fam_Member index values based on a numbered Ancestry chart.

Having a predictable, interpretable index for

Families (Fam ID) and

provides a tremendous advantage for
storing, organizing, selecting, sorting and sharing content (Data and Files)

Family Plot is built on concept of FamilyGPS (Genealogy Positioning System)
Plot your family on a Family Ancestry Chart
Derive their Family ID and Individual ID from their Chart location

Use the IND_ID and FAM_ID values to label family image files by member or family
IDs provide file handles and data keys that easily allow searching and stratification by family subsets (mother's side/father's side, family branches, families, individuals)

e.g. first cousins,and second cousins, great grandparents,...
Family relationships are easier to visualize by using Family Tree Diagram
Families must be indexed with unique identification numbers - FAM_ID

Father's Name
Wedding date
Family ID Number	GAF provides predictable (i.e. human interpretable ) FAM_ID values based Family Tree Diagram navigation and simple formula

Family Member

Person born into or married* into your extended family.
GEDCOM format describes family members as Individuals (INDI records)
GAF describes them as FAM_MEMBER.

Married Name
Birth date
RIP date
Family ID Number
Individual ID Number	Individual ID ( IND_ID ) numbers are composed of FAM_ID dash Birth Order eg 1-1 is IND_ID for first born child of Root family 2-4 is IND_ID for fourth child born to Father's family Tenth through fifteenth child born use hexadecimal values 10=a, 11=b,12=c,13=d, 14=e, 15=f eg Tenth born child of Mother's Mother family is 7-a see the_family_plot.svg

Family Image File

Family Member & Image File Index

Primary goal is to have a face for every name.
At least one image file for each Family Member
cropped as a head shot
where file is logically named
IND_ID is embedded in file name.
GAF Methodology uses a First_Last_IND_ID format for Image Files

Each generational step back from your nuclear family
progresses through Father/Mother binary ancestral path .
These steps can be indexed by sequential numbering
to provide a unique descriptor for each family
relative to the root family FAM_ID = 1
